Sew Powerful ~ Bag Materials/Kit Donation
The Quilting Bea is organizing a series of instructor-led tutorial classes, free of charge, for our sewers to come make Crossbody bags that we will then ship to Sew Powerful, an organization that is working towards improving the lives of the children in Zambia and the surrounding area. The girls in Zambia miss a week of school each month due to their menstrual cycle. They don’t have the disposable sanitary products nor means to dispose of them like we do in the US. This means they fall behind the boys in school and also most won’t be able to go to the next education level which is equivalent to American high school. This organization has created a consortium of local women who make reusable sanitary products. They ask sewing volunteers to make these crossbody bags for the girls to carry their products in, so they can continue to attend classes during their cycle. Keeping the girls in school decreases the chances of teenage pregnancy, teenage marriage and HIV contraction. These bags truly are life-changers and we are proud to be a part of their sewing volunteer army!
We know that not everyone sews or has time to attend the tutorial class, but we've had many requests for monetary donations, so the purchase of one of these Units will sponsor the production of a bag by one of our volunteer sewers.
